What the S5 Deadlock actually does

The S5 Deadlock is the honest answer to the problem every recovery-only tracker has: it tells you where the car went, but it does not stop it going. This does both. It is the same Thatcham S5 monitored tracking as the S5-VTS, with no tag no start immobilisation built in, which puts it in a conversation about prevention rather than just recovery.

The headline is the deadlock itself. It arms automatically every time the engine is switched off, and two encrypted driver tags come with it. To start the car again, one of them has to be present. A thief who relays your key signal off the doorstep, clones the fob, or simply walks out of your kitchen with the real key still finds a car that will not move, because the tag is what the system is actually asking about.

What it does not have is the OBD port protection the Deadlock PRO adds, so it stays a step behind that on vehicles specifically targeted through the diagnostic socket. On everything else it is the full system: 24/7 monitoring, tamper and jamming alerts, thirty days of journey history, and a remote engine block you can send yourself from the app.

What can the S5 Deadlock do?

No tag, no start

The engine will not run without an authorised tag present. Relaying, cloning or stealing your actual key gets somebody a car that sits exactly where it is.

Block it from your phone

You can send the engine block yourself, from the app, wherever you happen to be. So can the control room, if it comes to that.

Somebody is actually watching

A staffed Secure Operating Centre, day and night, all year. They ring you first to rule out the obvious, then work with the police if it is genuine.

Cutting the signal does not help

Alerts if somebody starts blocking the GPS or mobile signal, rather than the unit simply going quiet.

Every journey on a map

Thirty days of journey history and geo-fenced areas you can be told about, in the same app as the rest of the range.

It moves with you

Fully transferable to your next vehicle. There is a labour charge to move and recommission it, and we will sort the timing when you sell.

Is the S5 Deadlock right for you?

Worth it for

Anybody who wants tracking and immobilisation from one system, and whose vehicle is not on the list of cars specifically targeted through the OBD port. It is the strongest answer here for keyless vehicles, short of the Deadlock PRO.

Probably not for

Anybody whose vehicle has a known OBD key-programming weakness, where the Deadlock PRO's extra protection is worth the difference. Anybody who only needs a policy requirement satisfied as cheaply as possible should look at the S5-VTS instead.

Not sure which side of that you fall on? Tell us the make, model and year and what you are actually worried about, and we will tell you straight, including when the cheaper option is the right answer.

Professionally installed by Securacar

The S5 Deadlock is only as good as the install

The box is the same wherever you buy it. What changes is where it ends up in the car and how cleanly it is wired in, and that is the part a thief actually has to beat. It is most of what you are paying us for, so it is worth saying plainly.

On the Meta Trak S5 Deadlock: there are two jobs here rather than one. The tracking side wants an aerial position with enough sky and enough concealment, and the immobilisation side has to be wired so the block is reliable without upsetting anything the vehicle does normally. Getting the second one wrong is how you end up with a car that will not start on a cold morning for the wrong reason.

  • Fitted where you are

At your home or your workplace, across the North West. You hand the keys over at the start and get on with your day.

  • Hidden properly

The first thing a thief does is look for the unit. Where it goes is decided on your car, on the day, not copied from a diagram.

  • Shown how it works

Before we leave, you use it yourself with us stood there. Nobody drives off unsure which button does what.

  • TASSA approved

We are TASSA approved installers, which is a check on the people doing the work rather than on the box. It is the accreditation that exists precisely because a good system fitted badly is not a good system.

  • We are here afterwards

Questions a week later, or a year later, get answered. You are dealing with the person who fitted it, not a call centre.

  2. 02

We price it for your car

No two vehicles are the same job, so you get a price for yours rather than a figure off a list. It is the price you pay, and nothing is booked until you are happy with it.

S5 Deadlock: worth knowing

The detail, if you want it

What is no tag, no start like day to day?+

Invisible. You carry one of the two tags on your keyring or in a pocket and the car behaves exactly as it always has. There is nothing to press and no code to remember. The only time you notice it is if the tag is not there, which is the point.

What is the difference between this and the Deadlock PRO?+

The immobiliser itself: identical. Both arm automatically at engine off, both need one of two tags present to start again, both are Thatcham S5 and both are monitored the same way. The PRO adds one further thing, protection on the OBD diagnostic port, which is how a thief with the right tool can program themselves a working key. If your vehicle is not one that gets targeted through the port specifically, this is the same core protection for less.

Can I really immobilise the car from my phone?+

You can send the engine block from the app, and the control room can act too. In practice a stolen vehicle is stopped in coordination with the police rather than at the roadside. It will not cut the engine at speed, and any system claiming it would is describing something nobody should sell.

How does this compare with a Ghost?+

Both stop the car being driven. A Ghost is silent, has no subscription and does nothing else. The S5 Deadlock adds monitored tracking, alerts and recovery on top, and carries a subscription because of the control room behind it. Our guide on choosing between the categories is the place to start if you are undecided.

Does the S5 approval still apply with the immobilisation?+

Yes. It is a Thatcham category S5 system, and the immobilisation is in addition rather than instead. That matters if your insurer has specified S5, because you get the wording satisfied and the prevention as well. Send us the policy wording and we will confirm it before anything is ordered.

Meta Trak S5 Deadlock questions

What is the difference between this and the Deadlock PRO?+

The immobiliser is identical: no tag no start, two tags, the same Thatcham S5 approval and the same monitoring. The PRO adds protection on the OBD diagnostic port specifically, which matters most on vehicles known to be targeted that way. If yours is not one of them, this does the same core job for less.

What is the difference between this and the S5-VTS?+

The VTS tracks and is monitored. The S5 Deadlock does all of that and adds immobilisation: no tag, no start, and a remote engine block you can trigger yourself. If you want the theft prevented rather than only solved, this is the one.

What does "no tag, no start" actually mean day to day?+

You carry one of the two supplied tags, on your keyring or in a pocket, and the car behaves entirely normally. You do not press anything. If somebody tries to drive it without a tag present, the engine will not run for them.

Can I immobilise the car myself if it is taken?+

Yes, from the app. The control room can act as well. In practice a stolen vehicle is usually stopped in coordination with the police rather than at the roadside, for reasons that should be fairly obvious.

Will it stop the engine while I am driving?+

No. It is designed to prevent a vehicle being started or driven away, not to cut out at speed. Anybody selling you a system that stops a moving car on a motorway is selling you a lawsuit.

Is there a subscription with the S5 Deadlock?+

Yes, and there has to be. The subscription pays for the staffed control room watching the vehicle and the recovery service behind it, not for the box itself. We will tell you what it costs before you commit to anything, and we will tell you honestly if a monitored system is more than you actually need.

Will the S5 Deadlock fit my vehicle?+

Almost certainly. Trackers are far less fussy about make and model than an alarm is, because they are not talking to the car's own systems in the same way. Send us the make, model and year and we will confirm before you commit to anything.

Where do you fit it?+

At your home or your workplace, anywhere across the North West. You hand over the keys at the start, we show you how the app works at the end, and you get on with your day in between.
