Autowatch Ghost III Immobiliser

A secret code that starts your car

Autowatch Ghost III Immobiliser

This is the one that genuinely keeps the car on your driveway. Ghost III is the latest Autowatch Ghost, built for the faster data networks in newer cars. Until your own code goes in, the engine will not run, and there is nothing for a thief to find. We fit it at your home or workplace across Liverpool and the North West.

Full description
  • Completely hidden, so there is nothing to find or cut out
  • Works even if a thief is holding your real key
  • Your code on buttons the car already has, or a tag or your phone
  • Built for the CAN-FD networks in newer cars, and older CAN cars too
  • Fitted at your home or work
  • No subcontractors, ever
  • No subscription, ever

What the Autowatch Ghost actually does

A Ghost is not an alarm and does not pretend to be one. On its own it makes no noise, has no sensors and will never send you a notification. Its single job is to make sure the engine will not run for anybody who does not know your code, and it is very good at that one thing.

It works through the car's own data networks, with a conventional circuit cut only where a particular vehicle needs one, which is why there is nothing to find. No LED on the dash, no keypad, no box screwed under the steering column. You enter your code on buttons the car already has, and you choose the sequence yourself and can change it whenever you like. If you would rather, Ghost III also accepts an authorised key-tag or your smartphone.

The part that matters on a modern car is that it does not care about your key. A thief who relays your signal from the hallway, clones the fob, or walks off with the genuine key from your kitchen still cannot drive the car anywhere, because the car is not asking about the key at all.

Ghost III is the newest generation, built for the faster CAN-FD networks newer vehicle platforms use as well as the conventional CAN networks in most cars on the road, on a new processor that draws less power. The manufacturer's own app keeps working too, so remote heating and cooling through something like JLR InControl or the Ford app still does its job. If you want more than silent immobilisation, it can be paired with an anti-tamper siren, and with Autowatch's new CANBOT locator, which we can check the availability of for you.

How it works

  1. 01

    You get in as normal

Nothing looks different. No keypad glued to the dash and no wires on show.

  2. 02

    You tap your code

Using buttons the car already has, like the ones on the steering wheel or the door. Your code, chosen by you, and you can change it whenever you like. An authorised key-tag or your phone works too, if you prefer.

  3. 03

    The car starts

Skip the code or get it wrong and the engine simply will not run. It is not a fight, it just does nothing.

What this stops

  • Relay and keyless attacks
  • Key cloning
  • Theft using your genuine stolen key
  • Tow away starts

What it will not stop

  • Parts being taken off a parked car
  • Someone breaking a window for what is on the seat

Is the Autowatch Ghost right for you?

Worth it for

Anybody whose real fear is waking up to an empty driveway, particularly on a keyless car, and who wants protection a thief can neither see nor defeat while holding your actual key.

Probably not for

Anybody worried about wheels, catalytic converters or things taken from inside the car. On its own the Ghost never makes a sound and does not notice any of that, because the car was never going to be driven away.

Not sure which side of that you fall on? Tell us the make, model and year and what you are actually worried about, and we will tell you straight, including when the cheaper option is the right answer.

Professionally installed by Securacar

The Autowatch Ghost is only as good as the install

The box is the same wherever you buy it. What changes is where it ends up in the car and how cleanly it is wired in, and that is the part a thief actually has to beat. It is most of what you are paying us for, so it is worth saying plainly.

On the Autowatch Ghost III Immobiliser: it works through the car's own data networks, with a conventional circuit cut only where a particular vehicle needs one, so almost the whole job is choosing where the unit goes and making every connection look like it was always there. Done properly there is no LED, no keypad and no obvious box, which is the entire point of the name.

  • Fitted where you are

At your home or your workplace, across the North West. You hand the keys over at the start and get on with your day.

  • Hidden properly

The first thing a thief does is look for the unit. Where it goes is decided on your car, on the day, not copied from a diagram.

  • Shown how it works

Before we leave, you use it yourself with us stood there. Nobody drives off unsure which button does what.

  • TASSA approved

We are TASSA approved installers, which is a check on the people doing the work rather than on the box. It is the accreditation that exists precisely because a good system fitted badly is not a good system.

  • We are here afterwards

Questions a week later, or a year later, get answered. You are dealing with the person who fitted it, not a call centre.

Booking it

What happens if you go ahead

Four steps, no showroom visit and no deposit taken over the internet. Most people are booked in within a couple of minutes of picking up the phone.

  1. 01

    Tell us the car

Make, model and year, by phone, WhatsApp or the form below. We confirm the Autowatch Ghost is right for your vehicle before anything is booked, and we will say so if it is not.

  2. 02

We price it for your car

No two vehicles are the same job, so you get a price for yours rather than a figure off a list. It is the price you pay, and nothing is booked until you are happy with it.

  3. 03

    We come to you

At your home or your workplace, at a time that suits you, anywhere across the North West. You hand the keys over at the start and get on with your day.

  4. 04

You use it before we leave

We set it up with you, then watch you use it yourself. Nobody drives away unsure which button does what, and we are still here a year later if you have a question.

Autowatch Ghost: worth knowing

The detail, if you want it

What is new in Ghost III?+

Ghost III is the latest generation of the Autowatch Ghost. The headline change is support for CAN-FD, the faster data network that newer vehicle platforms are moving to, alongside the conventional CAN networks most cars use. It runs on an all-new, faster processor that draws less power, and it can block the engine digitally over the car's CAN and LIN networks, with a traditional circuit cut added only where a particular vehicle needs one. The idea has not changed: a hidden unit, and a code only you know.

What is the code actually like to use?+

You get in and tap a sequence on buttons the car already has, usually on the steering wheel or the door, then start as normal. It takes a couple of seconds once it is habit. You choose the sequence yourself, it can be as long or short as you are comfortable with, and you can change it whenever you like without coming back to us.

Can I use a tag or my phone instead of the buttons?+

Yes, if you would rather. Ghost III can be disarmed with your button sequence, an authorised key-tag, or your smartphone. We set up whichever suits you on the day, and you can stick with the buttons alone if you would rather carry nothing extra.

Will my car's own app still work?+

Yes. Autowatch designed Ghost III so that remote heating and cooling through the manufacturer's own app, such as JLR InControl or the Ford app, still works with the immobiliser fitted. Worth mentioning when you book if you use it, so we can confirm it on your car.

Why does a Ghost beat a relayed or cloned key?+

Because it never asks about the key. Relay theft works by carrying your key's signal out to the car, and cloning copies it outright, but both produce something that looks like a valid key, and the Ghost is not interested in that. Without the code the engine will not run, whoever is sitting in the seat. Our guide explains how the attack is carried out on a driveway in under a minute.

Why can a thief not simply find it and remove it?+

There is no LED, no keypad and no obvious box. It works through the car's own data networks, with a conventional circuit cut only where a particular vehicle needs one, hidden like everything else. That means there is no trail to follow and nothing recognisable to pull out. Where the unit goes is decided on your vehicle rather than from a diagram, which is why we do not publish the usual spots.

What happens when the car goes in for a service?+

Tell us and we will set up a service mode, so the garage can move and run the vehicle without your code. Turn it back on when you collect it. It is worth thinking about before the first service rather than at the counter, and it is the question people most often ring us about afterwards.

What if I sell the car?+

The Ghost stays with the vehicle, and the new owner needs their own code rather than yours. Let us know and we will sort the handover properly. It is also worth mentioning in the advert, because a documented immobiliser is a genuine selling point on the kind of car that gets targeted.

Which vehicles does it work on?+

Ghost III is built for both the faster CAN-FD networks on newer vehicle platforms and the conventional CAN networks in most makes from roughly the last fifteen years, because it depends on the car's data network rather than on the shape of the wiring. Coverage does change as manufacturers change their electronics, so we check your make, model and year before anything is booked and tell you plainly if yours is not supported.

What if somebody disconnects the battery?+

Nothing useful happens for them. The Ghost is not a device that has to be powered up to hold the car; without the code the engine simply will not run when power returns. Disconnecting the battery is a tactic against alarms and sirens, and it achieves very little against an immobiliser.

What does it mean that you are TASSA approved?+

TASSA is the approval scheme for the people fitting vehicle security rather than for the equipment itself. It exists because the same immobiliser fitted well and fitted badly are not the same product, and there was previously no way for a customer to tell the difference. It sits alongside the manufacturer approvals on the hardware rather than replacing them, so on a Ghost you have an accredited installer, and on something like the Smart Pro you have a Thatcham approved system fitted by one.

Why is it not an alarm, and does that matter?+

An alarm makes a noise after something has happened. An immobiliser stops the car being driven at all, silently. If your worry is waking up to an empty driveway, that is the Ghost's job exactly. If it is wheels, catalytic converters or things taken from inside, a Ghost will do nothing for you. We set the two side by side here.

Autowatch Ghost questions

Is the Ghost an alarm?+

No. An alarm makes a noise once something has already happened. An immobiliser stops the car being driven off at all. They are two different answers to two different worries, so it is worth working out which of those describes you before spending anything.

What if I forget my code?+

We set it up with you on the day and make sure you are comfortable with it before we leave. There is a recovery process if you genuinely forget, which we will walk you through.

Can a thief find it?+

That is rather the point of the name. There is no LED, no keypad and no obvious box. It works through the car's own networks, so there is nothing visible to look for or cut out.

What is the difference between Ghost II and Ghost III?+

Ghost III is the new generation, and Autowatch now supply only Ghost III, so Ghost II is no longer available and every Ghost we fit is a Ghost III. Its biggest change is support for CAN-FD, the faster data network newer vehicle platforms are moving to, on an all-new processor that uses less power. It can block the engine digitally over the car's CAN and LIN networks, and it accepts your button code, an authorised key-tag or your phone. The principle is the same as ever: hidden, and useless to a thief without your code.

Do you fit Ghost III in Liverpool?+

Yes. We are based in Knowsley and fit Ghost III at your home or workplace across Liverpool, Manchester, the Wirral, Cheshire and the rest of the North West. Send us the make, model and year and we will confirm it suits your car before anything is booked.

Does it need a service or a subscription?+

No. There is no monthly fee and nothing to renew. Once it is in, it is in.

Will it drain my battery?+

Very little. Ghost III runs on a new processor designed for lower power consumption. If the car is going to sit for weeks at a time, tell us and we will set it up with that in mind.

Will the Ghost work on my vehicle?+

Most vehicles from the last fifteen years or so, but it does depend on the make, model and year. Send us those three things before you commit to anything and we will confirm it, or tell you plainly that the Ghost is not the right answer for your car.

How long does the fitting take?+

It depends on the vehicle and where things have to be hidden, and we would rather give you an honest figure for your car than a headline one that suits us. We will tell you when we quote, and we will tell you if it turns out to be a longer job than expected rather than rushing it.

Will it affect my manufacturer warranty?+

What we fit is designed to sit alongside your vehicle's own electronics and we do not cut into anything we should not. Manufacturers word their warranties differently though, so it is worth a quick check with your dealer first. We are happy to talk it through before you decide.

Can I use the vehicle normally afterwards?+

Yes. The Autowatch Ghost is meant to disappear into how you already use the car. If living with it is going to change anything day to day, we will tell you exactly what before you book, not after we have left.
